My name is Holly, and I am licensed in New Mexico as a Mental Health Counselor. I created Adventures In Love LLC for seekers, wanderers, helpers, and soul care providers. Those people on life’s journey who feel deeply disillusioned, stuck in past patterns of belief and practices that no longer align with their inner wisdom, but also feel unable to move into new spaces or communities due to shame, fear, and anxiety.
Have you been serving others and are now experiencing moral injuries, disillusionment, and a crisis of faith? Are you deconstructing past worldviews and belief systems while battling burnout and other dark nights of the soul?
This work is for those who are ready to bravely sit in discomfort and find their way through to create a life of intention and authenticity. One that lives out your values, draws upon your inner authority and wisdom, and holds space for the entirety of the human experience within us, as well as those we serve, work, and live with.
My approach to counseling is eclectic and trauma-informed. I integrate wisdom from lived experiences as well as the clinical, spiritual, and scientific realms to create an adaptive and unique counseling adventure. I view the individual as capable of change and inherently good, and as an expert in their own life.
I use curiosity and wonder as therapeutic tools, listening deeply to your story to help you cultivate a relationship with your inner authority, while collaborating to practice skills that are supportive to you on the journey. We will sit in discomfort and may explore dualistic, black-and-white thinking patterns, systemic and cultural influences, past and present coping strategies and their effectiveness, and relational support dynamics. Goals are co-created to be achievable and in alignment with your values.

Holly Kidwell was born into a multi-generational military family with a conservative evangelical Christian worldview. She struggled to develop a true sense of identity and personal autonomy within the dominating high-control systems she was born into. She often felt a dissonance between the authoritarian teachings and her lived experiences with the Divine and other people. Holly endured many traumas in her childhood, and like so many of her family members before her, she enlisted in the military to escape and fulfill a sense of duty to serve others. Holly's active duty experience left her with unexplainable chronic pain and invisible wounds that would go unnamed for many years. She was medically discharged, but served as a military spouse for the next 16 years.
During that time, Holly volunteered in various supportive roles in churches and the military community while pursuing higher education. She pivoted from a counseling program to seminary, hoping to become a military chaplain, and focused her studies on Christian Apologetics. However, the seminary experience was brutal, and it unequivocally revealed the shadow side of her faith tradition and program while reinforcing the old messages of her authoritarian upbringing of unworthiness, inadequacy, and self-deception. She was rejected from the chaplaincy for not having the right kind of experience in "marrying and burying" and "altar calls". Again, feelings of disillusionment resurfaced, but this time they began to burn away at the veiled old structures, and a new adventure toward autonomy and inner wisdom began.
The transition to motherhood also propelled Holly deeper into her growth journey, creating opportunities to try new ways of being that reflected her True self. Once again, Holly could not ignore the deep call to support others on their journeys. She returned to school for her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. In doing so, she traversed many dark nights of the soul while she explored and engaged in new ways of being.
After working with childhood trauma in community mental health, Holly felt compelled to create Adventures In Love, LLC as a space outside the dominant system to support those who are working in and around it, providing clinically informed care from a holistic perspective. Holly is committed to ongoing transformational healing and strives to create a safe space for others to do the same
